French Press

The French Press, also known as a press pot or plunger pot, is a classic and easy way to make a rich and full-bodied cup of coffee. Here's how to brew coffee using a French Press:

You'll Need:

  • French Press
  • Coarse coffee grounds
  • Fresh water
  • Kettle
  • Timer
  • Stirring stick
  • Mug

Step 1: Measure and Grind the Coffee

  • For a standard 12-ounce cup, use about 26-28 grams of coarse coffee grounds (adjust to taste).
  • Grind the coffee to a coarse consistency, similar to breadcrumbs.

Step 2: Heat the Water

  • Heat water to about 200°F (93°C).

Step 3: Pre-wet the Coffee

  • Add the coffee grounds to the French Press.
  • Start the timer and pour a small amount of hot water (twice the weight of the coffee) evenly over the grounds. Let the coffee bloom for about 30 seconds.

Step 4: Continue Brewing

  • After the bloom, slowly pour the remaining hot water over the coffee grounds in a circular motion.
  • Place the lid with the plunger on top but don't press down.
  • Let the coffee steep for about 4 minutes.

Step 5: Plunge and Serve

  • Gently press down the plunger evenly.
  • Serve your freshly brewed coffee immediately.

The French Press method allows for a full extraction, producing a bold and flavorful cup. Adjust the coffee-to-water ratio and steeping time to match your preferred taste. Enjoy your French Press coffee as it is or customize it with cream and sugar.
